The journey to permanent residency in Canada can be long and is often only the beginning of the road to citizenship. Alejandrinia Velo Sagarnaga knows this all too well, and it’s not what she expected.

Guide to navigating Calgary’s winter roads

Anyone who lives in Calgary knows that winter driving is not to be underestimated for being dangerous. Ice, low temperatures and piles of snow make for a difficult journey that can be hard to prepare for. 
Calgary Police Traffic Sergeant, Andy Woodward, says that speed is the cause behind many collisions in the winter. The best thing that drivers can do is slow down. This may require planning for a longer commute along with monitoring traffic conditions.

Run clubs on the upswing in Calgary

Running in the city has always been popular but with one of Calgary’s new running clubs, the exercise takes on a whole new form.  

While scrolling Tik-Tok, Stephanie Mah came across a video from Sean Walker and Trenton Bingham, the creators of Calgary’s 2mro run club.

“Day one of running in Calgary until we have an army behind us,” said Walker and Bingham in their post.

The post quickly gained traction, going viral on Instagram. By the second run, their self-proclaimed “army” was already growing.

Reading breakdown: Why the placement of fall reading week has universities divided

Winter reading week has come and gone, with students now preparing for a final push of classes, assignments and exams.

The break falls just after the midpoint of term and aligns with the U of C. But it’s a different story in the fall, when MRU’s reading week falls in October, a full month before their northside peers. At the U of C, students get a week-long break in November before their stressful exam season starts.

Event organizer Jayme Minor realized long ago that he could have just as much fun without alcohol, but lacked the opportunity to participate in large-scale events with a sober crowd. 

“I looked around and I was like, ‘there’s not a lot of things that say, come have sober fun, come party without drugs, without alcohol.’"
